Andre Drummond Comments on Trade Rumors, Kyrie Irving and LeBron James

Timothy RappJul 26, 2017

Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond responded to trade rumors involving Kyrie Irving and himself and commented on LeBron James during an interview with TMZ Sports.

"If he feels like it's his time to go, then it's time for him to go," Drummond said of Irving. "It doesn't really matter what anyone thinks. Whatever makes him happy he should do."

As for James' denying the reports suggesting he was unhappy with Irving or was eager to see him traded, Drummond said, "Yeah I don't really believe that either."

He also declined to comment extensively on the rumors surrounding himself.

"I play for Detroit now, so we'll keep it at that," he said, adding, "Anything is possible in this league."

On July 20, Jake Fischer of SI.com reported, "The Pistons have been making and taking calls regarding their All-Star center for months."

He added:

"Toronto called dangling Jonas Valanciunas before the deadline, and Sacramento and Phoenix also expressed strong interest in Drummond in June, per sources. There's enough grease to ultimately move the wheels and find Drummond a new home before the season starts, and he's almost certainly not finishing out the final four years of his five-year, max contract in Detroit."

Drummond, 23, averaged 13.6 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game last season. While he continued to be a rebounding monster, both his scoring and defensive presence took a step back from the 2015-16 campaign.

And given his monster contract—he's making an average salary of $25 million over the next three seasons, with a player option for a fourth, per Spotrac.com—it wouldn't be shocking if the Pistons were indeed shopping him.

Drummond, however, seemed excited about the team's offseason moves, which included trading for Avery Bradley and drafting Luke Kennard.

"We have a lot of great pieces to be a great team," Drummond concluded in his TMZ interview.
