Trey Burke Says 'No One Wants to Play' in Utah After Jazz Lose Gordon Hayward

Tyler ConwayJul 10, 2017

Washington Wizards point guard Trey Burke, who spent his first three seasons in Utah, said "no one" wants to play for the Jazz in an exchange with fans on Twitter.

Burke responded to a fan who said he wasn't "talented enough" to make it in Utah:

The former Michigan star was traded to Utah as part of a draft-night swap with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009. He never quite developed into the Jazz's point guard of the future after a promising rookie season and was sent to Washington last summer.

Receiving inconsistent playing time off the bench (12.3 minutes per game), Burke averaged a career-low 5.0 points and 1.8 assists. However, he shot a career-high 45.5 percent from the floor and 44.3 percent from three-point range.

Bad blood between Burke and the Jazz isn't a new story. He openly spoke of the team trying to "break him" at the beginning of last season.

"They couldn't break me," Burke said, per Ryan Aston of Purple and Blues. "That's what they tried to do. They couldn't break me, though. They gave me DNPs. Everybody asked me what's going on, why you aren't playing. There's a reason everybody asked me that."

Former Jazz forward Trey Lyles, who was traded to the Denver Nuggets on draft night, has also taken glee in the team's difficult offseason. He posted a since-deleted GIF of Leonardo DiCaprio laughing after forward Gordon Haywardwho seemed to love his time playing with the Jazzagreed to sign with the Boston Celtics.

Burke and Lyles represent two of the team's first-round draft picks since 2013.
