Liverpool desire a world-class striker, and they have been unable to attract a No. 9 to replace the contributions of Luis Suarez since he departed for Barcelona in 2014.
Aubameyang smashed 31 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances last term, as well as scoring seven times in nine UEFA Champions League matches, per WhoScored.com.
Sky Sports News HQ's Kaveh Solhekol explained how new tax laws in China have damaged potential deals:
"Chinese window closes Friday. 100% tax on foreign players has had desired effect so far: no Rooney, no Costa, no Aubameyang, no anyone yet

In other Reds news, James Rodriguez could make the switch to Anfield if manager Jurgen Klopp meets Real Madrid's valuation.
According to the Daily Star (h/t Chris Beesley of the Liverpool Echo), the Colombia international has been offered to Liverpool for £66 million.
Spanish newspaper Sport (h/t Beesley) reported Manchester United and Manchester City have also been approached about signing the attacking midfielder, as well as Inter Milan, Juventus and PSG.

James has proved, even from the bench at Real, he is a potent force when given time on the pitch. He is blessed with flair and creativity, and he deserves to be at a club that will showcase his talents on a weekly basis.
The 25-year-old would be a quality addition to Klopp's starting XI, but a number of major teams will likely compete for his services in the weeks ahead.
The player will almost certainly seek a glamour move to a club that will offer him the biggest stage on which to perform.
