Embiid's comment came after Ball responded to tweets by Embiid and Sixers teammate Ben Simmons regarding Lonzo Ball on the night of the NBA draft in an interview with 97.5 The Fanatic.

After the Los Angeles Lakers selected Ball with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, Simmons tweeted the following, seemingly in reference to the Ball family:

Embiid then called for Simmons to embarrass the former UCLA standout on the court during the upcoming season:

Appearing on the Philadelphia radio station last week, the Ball family patriarch fired back at Embiid and Simmons, perย Jonathan Tannenwaldย of theย Philadelphia Inquirer:

"When you don't win, and don't even make the playoffs, and don't even stay on the court long enough, that's the best thing you can doโ€”is tweet and make some stuff. Ain't nobody else doing that, because they're working on their games in the gym. These guys ain't played a game, [are] always hurt, and [are] at the bottom of the totem pole. So guess what? Get your [rear ends] off the goddamn Tweeter and get in the gym."

To Ball's point, Embiid missed each of his first two seasons due to injury before appearing in just 31 games in 2016-17.

Simmons also missed his entire rookie campaign last season.

The Sixers haven't reached the playoffs since 2011-12, but provided Embiid and Simmons are healthy and No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz is as good as advertised, Philadelphia figures to be among the NBA's most promising young teams.
