Chelsea Reportedly Ready to Pay Club-Record £60M for Alex Sandro Transfer

Christopher SimpsonJul 3, 2017

Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay a club-record £60 million fee for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro following talks over the Brazilian's future on Monday.

Per the Telegraph's Matt Law, the Blues are prepared to meet his £60 million valuation and offer him a more lucrative contract than Juventus, who hope to keep him, leaving it up to the player to decide his future.

Chelsea are now said to be waiting on Sandro's decision, with the player yet to inform Juventus whether he wants to stay put or move to the Premier League. Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation.

Law does not believe the Ligue 1 giants to be a significant factor, though:

A club-record fee for a wing-back—a position Chelsea are already strong in thanks to Marcos Alonso—might seem somewhat puzzling on the surface, but such is the quality of Sandro he'd be an excellent buy even at that price.

The 26-year-old has all the attacking instincts of the quintessential Brazilian full-back, and he's a highly effective contributor in the final third, producing three goals and seven assists for the Bianconeri last year.

Squawka Football highlighted his creativity:

He's more than capable defensively, and he uses his superb athleticism to get back and help out as much as he does to get forward.

Indeed, in a robust and organised side like Juventus, it's almost impossible to establish yourself as a key player without being prepared or able to do the defensive work.

Goal's Mark Doyle believes his departure will be a real blow to the Old Lady:

Perhaps the only player who could fill his boots in Turin is Real Madrid's Marcelo.

Sandro would be perfectly suited to playing under manager Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, and the prospect of him linking up with Eden Hazard on the left flank is mouthwatering.

Staying put at Juve and most likely hoovering up another Serie A title next season will no doubt appeal to the player, but so too might a new challenge in the Premier League, so the Blues have a good chance of tempting him to make the switch.
