Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal Will Happen in '1 or 2 Days,' Says Lyon Chief
Arsenal's deal for Alexandre Lacazette is set to be wrapped up imminently after Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas said he expects it to be completed within "one or two days."
He revealed as much to French outlet Le Progres, saying (h/t ESPN FC's Mattias Karen): "The deal will happen for something between €45 million and €50 million. To be close to €50 million is something unique and will be a record for Arsenal and a record for Lyon. One must also take into account that, traditionally, a club like Arsenal do not have the habit of spending so much for one player."
According to Karen, the striker is expected to arrive in London on Monday in order to complete the deal.
Per L'Equipe (h/t Sport Witness), it could be finalised a day or two after but will nevertheless be soon:
The Daily Telegraph's Matt Law is impressed with the speed at which Arsenal are completing the deal for him:
While Arsenal did not particularly struggle for goals last season thanks to both Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud's form, having a ruthless goalscorer up front is something they've often lacked in recent years.
Football.London's Charles Watts believes there will be pressure on Lacazette's shoulders, but he expects the Frenchman to thrive at the Emirates Stadium:
His goal record from last year would suggest he can, per Goal's Chris Wheatley:
While the 26-year-old took his scoring to another level in the previous campaign, it was not the first time he'd breached 30 goals in all competitions, having netted 31 in 2014-15. The lowest total he's managed in the past four seasons is 22.
The forward may have been up against Ligue 1 defences, but he also had team-mates supplying him with ammunition who simply aren't of the same calibre as those he'll have behind him at Arsenal.
The Gunners still have several other issues in need of addressing this summer, but getting Lacazette's deal over the line will be a big step toward a strong transfer window, which should have a positive impact on their performances next season.
