Tottenham Transfer News: Javier Hernandez Rumours, Latest on Suso

Matt JonesJun 30, 2017

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez this summer.

According to Bild (h/t Metro), the Mexico international will be available for just £13.7 million and it's a price tag that's said to have triggered some attention from Spurs. In the report it's added that Tottenham have a "great" interest in the man known as Chicharito.

Hernandez, formerly of Manchester United and Real Madrid, was exceptional in his debut term for Leverkusen after signing in the summer of 2015. However, as the team struggled last season, so did the striker, finishing the campaign with 11 goals.

Still, as noted by Squawka Football, since his arrival at Leverkusen, Hernandez has been the club's main attacking threat:

Now 29, the striker has forged a career on being razor-sharp in the penalty area at both domestic and international level.

If he operates up top on his own, Hernandez can struggle at times. Technically, he's not the best centre-forward, as his hold-up play and utilisation of the ball can leave a lot to be desired. Still, when it comes to finding space in the box and finishing chances, he's outstanding.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho praised the striker last term and, as we can see here, suggested he would still be able to do a job in the Premier League:

Spurs could do with another forward to support Harry Kane, especially given Vincent Janssen struggled in his first season in English football.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino demands a lot from his strikers, and while Chicharito is a hard worker, he's not a player who will bring others into the game. Still, Tottenham would potentially benefit from having another poaching presence at the point of the attack as they seek to contend in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Suso Happy with AC Milan

AC Milan winger and reported Tottenham target Suso has revealed he is content with life at the San Siro and happy to stick around.

"I have three offers from Champions League clubs, but I want to stay here, as I am very happy with the fans and the coach," said the Spain youth international, per Sky Sport Italia (h/t Sacha Pisani of Goal). "Nobody said anything to me; I've been waiting since December and we'll see what happens."

Suso also confirmed he is waiting on a new contract offer from the Serie A side, with his current deal poised to expire in 2019. As noted by Pisani, Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the former Liverpool man.

The 23-year-old was one of the most consistent performers in the Milan side last season. As we can see, he excelled darting infield from the flanks:

As noted by WhoScored.com, Suso was one of the most creative young players anywhere in European football in 2016-17:

Milan have been busy in the transfer market, making eye-catching acquisitions with the likes of Andre Silva, Franck Kessie and Mateo Musacchio. Still, losing a key man such as Suso would represent a blow, and given the player seems keen to sign a new contract, moves should be made to tie him down.

If Spurs can capitalise on any uncertainty they’d be landing a fine player, as Suso has kicked on since failing to make an impact at Anfield. But at this stage, it’s a transfer that looks unlikely to come off.
