Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Kieran Tierney and Phil Jones
Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.
According to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 20-year-old, who has shone for the Scottish champions under Brendan Rodgers.
"Tierney is highly regarded and United have been sending scouts to check on his progress, and the reports were glowing after his performance against England this month," added Cross. "Mourinho wants a new left-back with Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford uncertain, and the United left-back is aware that the club are looking at different targets."

In the report it’s noted that Arsenal are also admirers of the Scotland international, who is said to be valued at around £15 million, but also that Celtic are keen to keep him.
As noted by BT Sport Football, Tierney was named as the best young player in the SPL during the 2016-17 season:
Shaw struggled to make an impression under Mourinho, meaning the Portuguese used many different players at left-back in 2016-17.

Tierney would be an interesting addition. The defender is bristling with energy, aggression and has showed composure in the final third when he does venture forward. Still, the Premier League and the pressures that come with playing for a club like United would pose massive challenges to the youngster.
Another season at Celtic would potentially be ideal for Tierney’s development, as there are still areas of his game that are raw. It means that if United were to bring him in, the youngster wouldn’t be an immediate fix to the left-back issues at Old Trafford.
United to Reject Phil Jones Approaches

Manchester United are reportedly set to reject any offers they receive for centre-back Phil Jones this summer.
According to Rob Dawson of ESPN, Mourinho was impressed by the efforts of Jones last season, when he formed an unexpectedly strong partnership with Marcos Rojo at centre-back. Still, with his place far from secure in the first XI, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are said to be considering a move.
"Jones, meanwhile, is hopeful of securing a place in the England squad for next summer's World Cup in Russia," added Dawson. "And despite being told by national team coach Gareth Southgate that he must be playing regularly to be considered, the 25-year-old is keen to stay at United and fight for his place."

Jones arrived at United in 2011 from Blackburn Rovers having showcased excellent potential. However, he’s yet to kick on at Old Trafford, with a succession of injuries hindering his progress.
As noted by football journalist Nick Harris, Jones has rarely been considered good enough to make the England squad too:
"When Phil Jones joined Man Utd in 2011, seemed certain Blackburn would soon be due £2m bonus for 20 competitive England games. He's played 6

Having signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica recently, the Red Devils have a glut of centre-back options. As well as the Swede, the team is expected to see Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Eric Bailly and Rojo battling for a starting spot.
Jones, as a result, will have his work cut out getting regular minutes next season, although United will be fighting for glory in four different competitions in 2017-18.
