Real Madrid Transfer News: Dani Ceballos Reportedly Close to Long-Term Move

Christopher SimpsonJun 28, 2017

Real Betis star Dani Ceballos is reportedly nearing a move to Real Madrid after talks have "intensified" regarding a long-term contract.

According to Sergio Santos Chozas of AS, Ceballos is set to join on a five or six-year deal, of which he'll spend the first remaining with Betis on loan, albeit Los Blancos may accelerate his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu on the back of impressive performances for Spain's under-21s this summer.

Ceballos is said to be keen on the idea of remaining with Betis for another season, though, to ensure he continues to develop well.

Madrid could be set to pay more than his €15 million buyout clause in order to give them an advantage over potential competitors such as rivals Atletico Madrid, who are also interested.

Ceballos ran riot against Italy on Tuesday during the semi-final of the European U21 Championship with a majestic performance.

Former footballer and pundit Trevor Sinclair singled him out for praise despite team-mate Saul bagging a hat-trick:

The midfielder caused the Azzurini no end of problems with his superb footwork, driving runs and sublime passing.

BeIN Sports' David Cartlidge summed up the reaction to the 20-year-old during one particularly impressive dribble as he produced some outstanding skill to escape the attentions of two Italy players in midfield before hurtling towards goal:

As football writer and broadcaster James Horncastle noted, his exceptional performance will not have gone unnoticed:

Ceballos had an impressive campaign with Betis, too, and he started 24 of the 30 La Liga appearances he made.

According to Squawka, he scored and assisted twice apiece, as well as creating 38 chances and completing 79 take-ons.

Such is his ability with the ball at his feet, opponents have frequently had to resort to fouling him in a bid to stop him, per Squawka Football:

He also showed off his work rate and energy in the centre by winning 67 tackles and making 52 interceptions.

Staying another season at Betis would allow him to hone his game further before joining Real, because despite his talent he's not likely to break into the side ahead of Casemiro, Luka Modric or Toni Kroos.

He has tremendous potential, though, so snapping him up will prove an excellent bit of business for Madrid.
