"Today ends our professional relationship, and I will take with me all those who truly make Juve a great club.

"I would like to thank all the Juventus fans for the year I've had, to my team-mates who welcomed me like the professionals they are, for a club that wins and reaches finals.

"I think that my respect for this club and its supporters was my dedication, my passion and all my effort to make the club greater every single day.

"I apologise to the Juventus fans if sometimes they thought I had done something to offend them. I never had that intention, I just live very spontaneously and few people understand it. Even though it appears that I am not perfect, my heart is pure."

Per the Guardian's Sid Lowe, Alves has previously discussed his interest in a move to England before the end of his career.

While the 34-year-old's time with the Bianconeri ultimately ended on a disappointing note by losing the UEFA Champions League final with Real Madrid, he did win the Serie A and Coppa Italia double during his season in Italy.

As such, it's perhaps of little surprise he's eager to move on to a new challenge and fulfil an ambition he's had throughout his career while he's still young enough to attract interest from the Premier League.

Gadd reported he's due to have a medical with City next week and put pen to paper on a deal worth £4.4 million per season.

Bleacher Report's Adam Digby believes the post indicates Alves has waived the second year of his contract with Juventus, making him a free agent:

On his Instagram post, Alves added:

Alves' love of the game is plain to see. In the modern game, winning is everything, and while the Brazil international is as driven as any other player by the prospect of silverware, the way he plays with a smile on his face is refreshing.

That said, a lucrative move this late in his career is an opportunity few players receive, so it's hard to begrudge him what could be his last significant pay day, particularly given he's remaining at a high-level side looking to challenge for top honours.
