Timberwolves Reportedly Targeting Kyle Lowry, Jrue Holiday, More in Free Agency

Adam WellsJun 24, 2017

The Minnesota Timberwolves may not be done upgrading their roster, as the team is reportedly looking to add a point guard in free agency.

Per Mitch Lawrence of SiriusXM NBA Radio, the Timberwolves are looking at Kyle Lowry, Jrue Holiday, Jeff Teague and George Hill.

The Timberwolves have already made one blockbuster move, acquiring Jimmy Butler in a trade with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday during the NBA draft.

Point guard Kris Dunn, drafted fifth overall by Minnesota last year, was part of the package sent to Chicago.

Ricky Rubio and Tyus Jones are the primary point guards still on Minnesota's roster.

Rubio has never been a consistent enough shooter, hitting just 37.5 percent of his field goals and 31.5 percent of his threes in his six seasons in Minnesota. He's also come up in trade rumors going back to last season, and that was still the case leading up to the 2017 draft.

Lowry, 31, is the biggest name among Minnesota's potential free-agent targets. He averaged a career-high 22.4 points in 60 games for the Toronto Raptors last season and has made three straight All-Star teams.

The Timberwolves looked good on paper entering the season behind the young trio of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and the Chicago-bound Zach LaVine. However, the team stumbled to a 31-51 record in the unforgiving Western Conference.

With Butler joining the squad under his old coach in Chicago, Tom Thibodeau, Minnesota looks like a legitimate playoff threat. If the Timberwolves added a top-flight point guard in free agency, they'd field a rock-solid starting five capable of joining the West's top tier.
