Marco Verratti 'Wants' Barca Move, but PSG Won't Let Him, Says Patrick Kluivert

Gianni VerschuerenJun 21, 2017

Former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director and Barcelona star Patrick Kluivert does not believe Les Parisiens will sell Marco Verratti to the Blaugrana during the summer, even though the Italian wants the move.

The Dutchman told laSexta (h/t Sport) the €80 million fee Barcelona are willing to pay wouldn't be fair value, and the Ligue 1 giants hold all the cards due to Verratti's long-term contract:

"I know the PSG president very well, and I also know that Verratti wants to go to Barcelona, but PSG will not let him leave. He renewed his contract last year and it will be very difficult [for Barca to sign him].

"Verratti's worth more than that. I think he's worth more than 100 million euros. If a player is not happy, at the end of the day it's PSG that decide [what happens]."

L'Equipe (h/t sports writer Matt Spiro) also reported Verratti is keen to leave, and he's exploring all of his options:

Verratti has been heavily linked with a move away from the French capital, and his agent, Donato Di Campli, has only fuelled the rumours by dropping plenty of hints, via Sky Sport Italia (h/t ESPN FC's Ben Gladwell).

Barcelona is regarded as his most likely destination, as Juventus don't appear to have the financial muscle to close a deal.

Per Calciomercato.com's Angelo Taglieri, the former Pescara man has already agreed to a deal with the Catalans, but PSG have no intention of cooperating.

According to football journalist David Amoyal, Les Parisiens have a reputation for not letting players dictate terms when it comes to transfers:

Kluivert knows both Barcelona and PSG well. He played for the Blaugrana between 1998 and 2004 and spent the 2016-17 season as sporting director for Les Parisiens. He left the Ligue 1 side after Antero Henrique was hired to take over said role, with PSG only offering him a position as a club ambassador.
