Hey Jets' Fans! I've Got a Message For You.

This isn't for all you Jets' fans. Just the ones who took a crap on Brett Favre last year.

I boycotted the Packers last season in favor of Favre and the Jets. Aside from the 1-4 slide at the end of the season, I had a great time. But I'm still a tad miffed. Perhaps it's late to be screaming about it, but I will anyway.

When the Jets were sitting pretty at 8-3, the Jets were the toast of New York. Fans and the media were tauting a Jets-Giants Super Bowl. Not me. The season is 16 games, folks, not 11. People were saying, "look what Favre has done", while others pointed out, "it's not JUST Favre...it's also a shored up O-line and defense". Fine. I buy all that.

But when the Jets slid at the end of the season, fans and the media were quick to say that it was all Favre's fault. Even after it was revealed that he had a torn tendon in his throwing arm...all Brett's fault. So...tell me how can it not be "all Brett" when the Jets were 8-3 but "it's all Favre's fault" when the Jets dropped 4 of the last 5 games? Sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to high expectations. And a little hypocrisy.

Don't get me wrong. I was disappointed in the Jets' season as well. Hell, I dropped my team of 43 years to follow the Jets.  But how can it be "all Brett's fault" when the Jets' passing D was the 4th worst in the NFL? Or the rushing D...had 28 sacks in the first 8 games and only 12 in the last 8 games? Or what about big mouth Thomas Jones who screamed that Brett shoulda been benched in the last Miami game for his poor performance? How many yards did YOU have in that game, Mr. Jones? Try 23. And in your last 4 games you had a high of 73 yards, I believe, and in 3 of those games you had wayyyyy less than that.

And even when the Jets were 8-3, my friends and I in California were continually scratching our heads regarding some of the play-calling by Eric Mangini. Yet some fans and the media said Mangini took the heat for Favre screwing up the Jets' season and got fired. They even said Mangini and Favre didn't get along (course that's why Mangini named his 3rd son after Brett, right?). Mangini later refuted all those dumb, unnamed sourced articles.

And what about all those Jets fans who screamed "we shoulda kept Pennington...look what he did with Miami?"

What's Pennington doing now? Injured. Out for the season (that's a big reason I'm writing this now - I didn't know Chad-y-o was out for the year). And Brett Favre is still playing at the age of 40. And playing well at Minnesota. He was playing pretty well last year for your Jets until he injured his arm. Old Man Favre. And a lot of you took a big dump on him. Hell, I woulda retired from the Jets too. Sure, maybe Brett really didn't want to play for the Jets as much as he wanted to play for the Vikings. But he got traded and went through with it 'cause he wanted to play ball. If memory serves me correctly, Brett did HELP the Jets win 5 (was it 5?) more games than the previous year. And Chad-y-o's success at Miami last year has nothing to do with the perceived success he may have had had he not been traded by the Jets.

But you got Sanchez and I believe that's the best thing that coulda happened for your Jets. I'm watching the MNF game right now. Cheering for the Jets.

Be careful how you treat him (Sanchez). Or you might scare him away as well.
