Football week ends start in Alabama early on a Friday night, in places like Gordo, Ider, Pell City, Cullman, Opp & a 100s of other small towns across the state.  With a population of 4 million & a few more, Alabama over the years has produced amazing football players, names like 2-time Super Bowl Mvp Bart Starr, Heisman winners Pat Sullivan & Bo Jackson, The Chargers young gun Phillip Rivers, to Hall of Famers like, Hannah, Stallworth,  and Tippett. Throughout the history of college football Alabama has sent her sons all over the place to play football, for the past decade Alabama has averaged about 70 young men a year moving from Fridays to Saturdays, then a dozen or more every year will move from Saturdays to the holy day of football- Sunday.

If you’re a football fan, college or pro, let me suggest you head over to a local high school game.  Buy you a decent priced dog & a coke- no beer allowed!  Buy you a 5 dollar program and  maybe even a 10 dollar T-shirt from the home team! Seat on the concrete bleachers between the parents and the students,  and watch young men battle each other on the field for the one real reason to play football, to get girls! That’s right the only reason any of us played a sport in High school was to attempt to steal some affection from the fairer sex.

Yes you can play for the enjoyment of the game, for the achievement  of winning, to be a part of something bigger than yourself, but even the kids that are very good will tell you its about the young ladies.

Always has Always will.

And the fine young men of the great State of Alabama are the same as those fine young men from the rest of the country.

So go enjoy a Friday night high school game; watch the proud parents cheering for their sons and grandsons, enjoy the sounds of the band attempting to keep time; watch the young kids on the side tossing the ball around dreaming of the day when they will be out there playing on Friday nights, and watch the players as they try their hardest to do the best they can and hope somewhere up in the stands some young girl is watching.
