Rich Hill Placed on 10-Day DL with Blister on Middle Finger

Alec NathanApr 7, 2017

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed pitcher Rich Hill on the 10-day disabled list due to a blister on his left middle finger, the team announced on Twitter Friday.

Hill made his lone start of the season to date in the Dodgers' 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres on April 5. In the victory, Hill struck out five and walked three while allowing just two hits in five innings.

Hill was bothered by blisters throughout the 2016 season, but he tried to quell concerns that they would bother him again in 2017.

"I mean, it had never happened before in my career," he said in February, according to the Los Angeles Daily NewsBill Plunkett. "It was such an outlier that it’s not something I look at and feel is going to be an issue."

Hill was also bothered by a groin injury throughout the early stages of last season. As a result, he was limited to 20 starts during a campaign that was split between the Dodgers and Oakland A's.

However, those ailments didn't sway the Dodgers from committing to Hill long-term. In December, they inked the southpaw to a three-year, $48 million deal that runs through the 2019 campaign.

According to the Los Angeles TimesAndy McCullough, Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt suggested Alex Wood could take Hill's place in the rotation Monday against the Chicago Cubs
