A Preview of the Rest of the Season?

After the Toronto Maple Leafs home opener against the Montreal Canadians, the Toronto Maple Leafs looked very similar to last years team. With that being said, the Budz can’t finish a game without giving the other team at least one point, if not two.

Even though Burke did a lot of moving in the off season, his acquisitions looked great on paper, but are not coming together as Leaf Nation would have hoped. Having Komisarek as their new defensemen put a lot of people’s mind at ease. However, he’s no good because he watches most of the game from the sin bin!

Another thing I have noticed about the Maple Leafs are the coaches. Particularly Ron Wilson. His ‘ticked off’ approach may be what this team needs to be motivated. After every game, we see Ron Wilson storm off into the dressing room. I first noticed this last season too, regardless of a win or loss. Even his interviews are very harsh and abrasive, so I could just imagine how he talks to his players. Maybe with all of the horsepower Burke brings to the table, perhaps a call to Paul Maurice may be in order.

We also currently have three players with ‘A’s on their sweaters, but no ‘C’. I think Ron Wilson better find a leader for this franchise or this season is going to have a big similarity to last year. How come a guy like Kaberle, who is a steal by the way, for the amount of money they are paying him, cannot crack the ‘A’ ceiling? They need a franchise player that will take full control of this team and bring it to the next level.

As for our tenders, with the ‘Monster’ being out, Toskala has not been performing to NHL standards for the past two seasons. Maybe its time to send him with Gerber. The ‘Monster’ appears to be our only saving grace and with his return, hopefully we will be able to crack a win in this terrible start to the season.
