Dean Heffernan Hospitalised After Keith Gillespie Elbow During PFA Legends Match
Former Manchester United player Keith Gillespie lost his composure during a charity match between a Red Devils legends team and the PFA Aussie Legends on Saturday, sending Dean Heffernan to the turf with an off-the-ball elbow. The latter was reportedly hospitalised overnight.
According to Foxsports.com.au, the United legends were already losing by three goals when Gillespie inexplicably flung his elbow at Heffernan. The victim was left bloodied with chipped teeth and damage to his jaw, and he reportedly struggled remembering the incident, per Fox Sports.
The Sun Football shared these two photos of the clash:
Gillespie was on the books at United between 1993 and 1995 but never made much of an impact for the Red Devils and soon left for Newcastle United. The winger had a nomadic career in Britain and last played professionally in 2013.
According to Foxsports.com.au, Saturday's charity match was played for DT38 Foundation, in order to raise awareness of both mental health issues and testicular cancer. The match ended 3-0 in favour of the PFA Aussie Legends.
