The top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks found out who their opponent would be Wednesday night as the UC Davis Aggies (23-12) outlasted the North Carolina Central Eagles 67-63 in a First Four game played in Dayton, Ohio.

The Aggies trailed by three points at halftime, but they steadily picked up their level of play and ultimately kept the Eagles from getting the lead back in the final stages. Chima Moneke led the way for UC Davis with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He got plenty of support from Brynton Lemar, who had 15 points, and Lawrence White, who contributed 14 points.

Dajuan Graf led North Carolina Central with 15 points, while Kyle Benton and Patrick Cole chipped in 13 points each.

"Our guys grew up as little hoopers dreaming about playing and having this opportunity," UC Davis coach Jim Les said after the game, per the Associated Press and Stats LLC (h/t CBSSports.com). "And so it's special to be here. And we're just going to continue to fight, to keep this story going."

Competing against the talented Jayhawks will be a completely different order for UC Davis, but it's an opportunity that will present itself when the two teams meet Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In the second game, the USC Trojans (25-9) found a way to come from behind and get the best of the Providence Friars by a 75-71 margin. The 11th-seeded Trojans will face sixth seed SMU on Friday in Tulsa.

The Friars had a 15-0 run in the first half and took a comfortable 44-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, the Trojans mounted a serious charge that included a 17-3 run in the second half and wore down the Friars.

Forward Bennie Boatwright led the Trojans with 24 points, while guard Jordan McLaughlin added 18 points and Chimezie Metu scored 15 points. Metu's two-handed dunk late in the second half extended USC's lead to five points and gave it control of the game.

Forward Emmitt Holt led the Friars with 18 points, and Rodney Bullock and Jalen Lindsey both had 17 points. Providence could not find the defensive answers it needed once USC got on its roll in the final 20 minutes.

Thursday's action will feature 16 games, and that includes eighth-seeded Northwestern (23-11) facing ninth-seeded Vanderbilt (19-15) in Salt Lake City.

The Wildcats are making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament, and head coach Chris Collins' team made a statement with its consistent play through the first two-thirds of the season and then won a key late-season game against Michigan that gave its tournament chances a boost.

The Wildcats also won two games in the Big Ten tournament last week before they were beaten in the semifinals by the Wisconsin Badgers.

Bryant McIntosh leads the Wildcats with 14.4 points per game, while Scottie Lindsey is right behind with a mark of 14.2 points per night. McIntosh leads the team with 5.2 assists per night, and he is a superb ball-handler.

The Commodores will give Northwestern all it can handle. Guard Matthew Fisher-Davis leads Vanderbilt with 13.6 points per game, while Luke Kornet scores 13.2 points per night.

Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew will try to get his team's aggressive defense to shut down Northwestern and make the Wildcats' stay in the tournament a short one.
