Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Lawrie spent the 2016 season with the White Sox, hitting .248/.310/.413 with 12 home runs in 94 games. It marked the third different team he has played on over the past three seasons.
The 27-year-old was originally a first-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010 for Shaun Marcum. He had a lot of hype prior to his MLB debut, even ranking No. 40 on Baseball America's Top 100 prospect list prior to the 2011 season.
After spending the first four years of his MLB career with the Blue Jays, he spent the 2015 season with the Oakland Athletics before being traded to the White Sox in December 2015.
Lawrie's offense has never developed to the point he can be counted on as an everyday player. He has a career slash line of .261/.315/.419 and has only played more than 130 games once in his career.
For teams in need of a bench player who can handle second or third base defensively, Lawrie would be a good addition at this point in spring training.
