Week 6 NCAA Game Picks

Paul SalmanSenior Analyst IOctober 8, 2009

Week 5 was another mediocre week for me. I went 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 in picking the winners. I am now 4-9 ATS and 8-5 in picking winners. Week 6 needs to be a good one.

(21) Nebraska @ (24) Missouri
Thursday, Oct. 8 @ 9pm
Line: Georiga -4

Missouri has dominated this series the last two years, and they look as good on offense this year as they have in the past. Blaine Gabbert has been nearly perfect with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. However, this will be the first good team Missouri will face this year.

Nebraska has only given up one passing touchdown this year (only USC has given up none) and has held oponents to a 50.4 completion percentage. Nebraska played extremely well on the road at Virgina Tech and were one 81 yard miracle touchdown pass and run away from winning that game.

Missouri has not been challenged yet, and the best team they played, Nevada, was able to score 21 points on them.

Nebraska knows what they are capable of this year after that game in Blacksburg, and will come into this game confident. The Huskers will prove they are the class of the Big 12 North and cover this 4 point spread on the road.

Nebraska Wins 31-24.

(17) Auburn @ Arkansas
Saturday, Oct. 10 @ 12pm
Line: Auburn -3

Auburn comes into this game riding high after a 5-0 start and jumping to 17 in the top 25 rankings. Chris Todd is running this offense extremely well and the attack has been very balanced between run and pass, which sets up well for The Tigers who will face an Arkansas defense that has proven that they are susceptible to giving up big plays.

Arkansas has played a tougher schedule thus far, and has lost to Georgia and Alabama, (who was able to shut down this offense) and come into this game at 2-2. Auburn has had a fairly easy schedule but did beat West Virginia who has been their toughest opponent to date.

This game will be a shootout and will come a couple key defensive stops. Auburn has been more consistent this year and will find a way to come up with these key stops. Arkansas' defense will struggle with the well balanced attack of this Auburn offense.

Gene Chizik, who was being booed out of Auburn before his plane landed upon being hired last December should have his team at 6-0 and in the top 15 in just his first year as Head Coach.

Auburn wins 41-34.

Michigan @ (12) Iowa
Saturday, Oct. 10 @ 8pm
Line: Iowa -8

So far, Iowa has played like the best and most consistent team in the Big Ten. They are a team that shows up on the big stage, they don't make mistakes, and play strong defense.

This weekend they face Freshman Quarterback Tate Forcier of Michigan who has been very impressive thus far. He has showed that he has the ability to make plays with his arm, his legs and stays very poised. The problem this week will be that Forcier has not faced a defense this strong, and more importantly for him, a defensive line that has put as much pressure on him as this Iowa line will on Saturday.

Iowa has been able to rattle every quarterback they have faced, and have held opposing offenses to just 13 points per game.

Defense is how Iowa wins games and playing a freshman quarterback at home in a night game should help, although Forcier has shown that he does not get rattled. Look him to make a few big plays to help keep the game close, but also look for him to make a couple key "freshman" mistakes that will eventually result in a Michigan loss.

Michigan loses this game but covers the 8 point spread.

Iowa wins 24-17.

Bonus pick:

Florida @ LSU
Saturday, Oct 10 @ 8pm
