Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Gabriel Barbosa and Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel "Gabigol" Barbosa's time at Inter Milan could already be coming to an end, with plenty of transfer rumours surrounding the former Barcelona target. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus has revealed he turned down larger offers from other top clubs in favour of Manchester City.
Gabigol made the switch to Inter from Santos during the summer in controversial fashion, as Barcelona had a first option on the Brazilian forward, obtained in the Neymar transfer. As reported by Mundo Deportivo (h/t Goal), the Catalans were furious with the way things were handled and even denounced Santos to FIFA, seeking damages.
The 20-year-old has endured an awful time since then, wasting away on the Inter bench while the Nerazzurri slumped to yet another disappointing start in Serie A. Football Italia shared this image that perfectly sums up his standing at the club right now:
Per Calciomercato, transfer rumours are already swirling, with Inter acknowledging Gabigol could leave as early as January.
Speaking to UOL Esporte (h/t Calciomercato), Santos president Modesto Roma Junior has already addressed the rumours: “First of all, we have to consider whether Inter want to sell Gabigol. Doors are always open for him, I think he prefers a return to Santos than a move to Las Palmas.”

Judging by the comments his agent Wagner Ribeiro made to Radio Globo (h/t Football Italia), the relationship between club and player may already be beyond repair:
"I was contacted by a club from Rio and one from Minas to take Gabriel on loan, but I can’t guarantee anything. What I want is for my client to no longer be humiliated.
Why isn’t he playing? Not even Inter can answer that.
[…] We’ll resolve this situation in January, he has a five-year contract but that doesn’t mean anything if he isn’t playing.
He’s unhappy right now.
"
Barcelona may not be keen to do business with Inter or Gabigol after what transpired during the summer, although the Italians can hardly be blamed for the drama. Santos didn't warn the Blaugrana they had accepted an offer in time―neither the player nor Inter are to blame for that.
The Brazil international remains a sensational talent who scored freely throughout his career in the Santos academy and took over as the main scoring threat for the senior team once Neymar left. As shared by Selecao Brasileira, it's hard to understand why Inter aren't giving him more chances:
Gabigol's value hasn't been this low in some time, and if Barcelona decide to strike while the iron is hot, they could land a phenomenal talent looking to prove himself for a fraction of what he would normally cost.
Here's a look at some of his highlights:
Compatriot Jesus also agreed to a transfer during the summer, but unlike Gabigol, the 19-year-old opted to stay with Palmeiras on loan, joining Manchester City in January instead. Speaking to FourFourTwo (h/t Manchester Evening News' Stuart Brennan), he has now revealed other clubs were willing to spend more than the Citizens:
"There was (a lot of interest), but I don’t want to name any club.
The decision to join City was taken by me, with my family and my agent – and it wasn’t the best financial offer.
We considered many things, but I really appreciate the whole City project and I’m so happy with the decision. City are a huge club in a country that loves football and has one of the best leagues.
"
Brennan ranked Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Juventus among his many suitors.
Jesus has only impressed since his strong showing at the Summer Olympics, and City fans likely can't wait for the Brazilian to join for the second half of the season.
He should see more playing time than he would have at the Camp Nou, but the Catalans undoubtedly wish he would have picked them, even if it likely would have taken him longer to reach his full potential.
