Toby Alderweireld Injury: Tottenham Star out vs. Burnley Due to Back Injury
Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld once again faces a spell on the sidelines, as the Belgium international was kept out of Sunday's Premier League match against Burnley with a back injury.
The club's official Twitter account confirmed the news, adding that the problem isn't a severe one:
Alderweireld only just returned from injury after missing a significant amount of time with a knee injury, per Tom Dutton of the London Evening Standard.
His return against CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League was a welcome sight for Spurs, who had to resort to shifting Eric Dier back into a defensive role instead of playing the England international in midfield.
Alderweireld and compatriot Jan Vertonghen form one of the top defensive partnerships in the Premier League, and the former's absence was keenly felt. The 27-year-old isn't just one of the team's best at neutralising an attack―he's also a superb passer who routinely picks out forwards with long balls.

While Spurs report the back injury isn't a serious one, it's worth noting they said the same thing when he first injured his knee, per Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror. Ultimately, the former Atletico Madrid man missed almost two months.
With the busy holiday season right around the corner, another long spell on the sidelines could doom Spurs' title chances, as they need their star defender to keep pace with the Premier League's elite.
