Benching Jorge Posada Is The Right Move

FROM NECESSARY ROUGHNESS - CHECK OUT "JERSEY" GIRL OF THE DAY DAILY

Many Yankee fans are knocking Joe Girardi for his decision to sit Posada in game two in order to use Molina as the catcher who has better chemistry with starting pitcher A.J. Burnett.

Although The Yankees lose Posada's offense during the innings Burnett will be pitching, what is most important is that the pitcher is comfortable. A.J. Burnett is not the type you want to mess with, given his inconsistency and ineffectiveness in big games. As columnist Lisa Olson lays out, the statistics show he is a more effective pitcher with Molina behind the plate and that is the most important aspect of this decision.

The Yankees have enough fire power to win a game with Posada on the bench, who can be used later in the game if needed, which gives the Yankees a huge advantage in terms of bench depth.

Should The Yankees lose the game, or the series, no fans or writers can point the finger at this decision. Joe Girardi is going with the numbers here and the numbers show that his pitcher who is taking the mound in game two feels better with Molina behind the plate.

This is a bold move by Girardi and one Yankee fans should appreciate. He is not allowing his veterans and "real Yankees" to run the show. He is doing what he feels is the right decision to put this team in the best position to win.

Now that Girardi adjusted for his pitcher, it's time for A.J. Burnett to deliver.
