Tiger Woods at Hero World Challenge 2016: Saturday Leaderboard and Reaction
The comeback has had a few bumps, but Tiger Woods is keeping pace with a group of the best golfers in the world through the first three days of the Hero World Challenge.
After a bogey-free 65 in his second round to get back into the mix, Woods carded a respectable two-under-par 70 on Saturday to stay in the middle of the pack after three days. The round started magnificently as Tiger carded three straight birdies.
Tee shots became an issue on the back nine. He missed his last five fairways and recorded two bogeys and a double bogey over his final six holes.
In his first tournament back after a 15-month layoff and two back surgeries, Woods has to be pleased to be sticking in the middle of the pack. He got as high as third place on Saturday but ended his round in a tie for ninth in the 17-man field, exactly where he was at the conclusion of Round 2 on Friday.
As Tiger headed for the clubhouse at the end of his round, Hideki Matsuyama had opened up a five-shot lead over Dustin Johnson at the top of the leaderboard—19 under par through 15 holes.
Woods will look to close out his week on a high note when Round 4 play starts Sunday morning at the Albany Golf Club.
