Bournemouth vs. Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp's Key Pre-Match Press Conference Quotes
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shut down rumours linking striker Daniel Sturridge with a move away from Anfield in January ahead of the Reds' Premier League trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
Per David Maddock in the Mirror, West Ham United have been linked with a move for Sturridge in the new year, and the Englishman's lack of first-team action this season has added fuel to the fire—he has only started four league games in 2016-17.
However, Klopp has denied the links and indicated there is no intention for Liverpool to sell any key players when the January transfer window opens, per the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce:
The main reason for Sturridge's limited playing time this season has been the excellent form of Roberto Firmino in the No. 9 role.
Klopp revealed that the Brazilian was back in training on Thursday and could be available for Sunday, while Adam Lallana could also return to action, per Liverpool:
Sturridge, though, will not be involved at the Vitality Stadium, per Pearce.
Liverpool are just one point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and qualified for the EFL Cup semi-finals on Tuesday when a much-changed side beat Leeds United 2-0.
The Reds' last defeat came at Burnley on August 20, and given their form they are more than capable of beating 12th-placed Bournemouth.
However, injuries have been a concern of late, with key man Philippe Coutinho sidelined until 2017 with an ankle injury.
Klopp acknowledged the Cherries' slight misfortune in losing 3-1 to Arsenal last time out and is aware they pose a significant challenge, per Pearce:
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has installed an attractive style of play at the club, and given how impressive Liverpool have often looked this season, Sunday's match could well be entertaining.
The main Reds weakness picked out by many this term has been their defence, but they have kept clean sheets in each of their last three fixtures.
Klopp will be eager to see them repeat the trick against the Cherries as, with the attacking power Liverpool have at their disposal, the likely result of keeping Bournemouth out would be another three points for the Reds.
