Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind

Rory MarsdenNov 30, 2016

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is reportedly a target for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

According to MailOnline's Simon Jones, Leverkusen are eager to increase competition in their squad and believe Rojo may be available given that United deemed him "surplus to requirements at the start of the season."

Jones also noted that Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is eager to add a new centre-back in January and that selling Rojo could free up squad space. However, United are said to be keen to recoup as much as possible of the £16 million they paid Sporting CP for the Argentinian in 2014.

Not so long ago, the 26-year-old's Old Trafford career looked all but over, as he was poor in his sporadic appearances at the start of the season.

However, Rojo has looked much better during his recent run in the first team—made a necessity by United's injury problems—impressing again as the Red Devils beat West Ham United 4-1 in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, per ESPN's Alex Shaw:

Able to play at left-back and centre-back, the Argentina international is a useful figure to have in the squad and intermittently shows glimpses that he could be a top-class player.

Given his inconsistent form throughout his United career, though, were Leverkusen to make a bid of around £15 million, the Manchester outfit may be willing to sell Rojo. However, his recent performances have shown that he could be more of an asset than previously thought.

Meanwhile, Daley Blind reportedly fears he could be a victim of Mourinho's upcoming defensive overhaul.

According to David McDonnell of the Mirror, the versatile Dutchman has told friends he "does not think he will survive Mourinho’s cull" and that he could be sold next summer.

Per McDonnell's report, Bayern Munich's David Alaba, Leverkusen’s Aleksandar Dragovic and Southampton's Jose Fonte are all defensive targets for the Red Devils. Blind could find himself surplus to requirements if a new centre-back comes in.

The 26-year-old began the 2016-17 campaign as a consistent starter, playing either as a centre-back or at left-back. However, despite injuries to Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling, he has recently been kept out of the side by the likes of Rojo, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw.

Blind is a high-quality player, but the addition of another specialist centre-back or left-back to the United squad could put his Old Trafford career under threat.
