Copa del Rey 2016: Latest Scores, Results, Reaction and Updated Schedule

Gianni VerschuerenNov 30, 2016

Real Madrid booked their spot in the next round of the 2016 Copa del Rey with a lopsided win over Cultural Leonesa on Wednesday, while Barcelona struggled in their 1-1 draw against Hercules.

The Catalans still have a second leg at the Camp Nou ahead of them, though, and won't worry too much about their performance right now.

Atletico Madrid will also play a second leg in their tie against CDĀ Guijuelo, but following their 6-0 away win, manager Diego Simeone has little to fret about.

Recap

Real beat Cultural 7-1 in the first leg and almost matched that feat on Wednesday, winning 6-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Mariano Diaz. The Dominican struck twice in the first half and once after the break.

MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 30: James Rodriguez of Real Madrid CF reacts with Isco after Isco narrowly failed to score a goal during the Copa del Rey last of 32 match between Real Madrid and Cultural Leonesa at estadio Santiago Bernabeu on November 30, 2016

It was Enzo Fernandez who stole the show, however. Manager Zinedine Zidane's son made his debut for Los Blancos at the start of the second half and needed just a few minutes to make his mark with a delightful piece of skill and a goal of his own.

Zidane showed little emotion as the ball went in, and he explained why after the match, per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan:

James Rodriguez also found the net, and Cesar Morgado scored an own goal. The visitors' lone strike came from Yeray Gonzalez.

Los Blancos rested most of their starters, as expected, as the side already had one foot in the round of 16. The upcoming Clasico against Barcelona was also a factor, and fortunately for Real, the few regulars who did play all emerged unscathed.

Hercules' defender Jose Manuel Rojas (L) vies with Barcelona's Brazilian midfielder Rafinha during the Spanish Copa del Rey (King's Cup) round of 32 first leg football match Hercules CF vs FC Barcelona at the Estadio Jose Rico Perez in Alicante on Novembe

The Blaugrana also rested a bunch of starters, but Barcelona didn't fare nearly as well as their rivals. David Mainz even gave lowly Hercules a shock lead in the first leg of their tie, before youngster Carles Alena tied things up.

Per Bleacher Report UK, it was yet another debut goal in the Copa:

Compared to Real's backups, Barcelona's fringe players put together a horrendous showing. While the team should still qualify for the next round with ease, it's another worrying sign this close to El Clasico, especially considering the dreadful showing they put together against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Over in Guijuelo, Atletico enjoyed an easy outing in the first leg of their tie. Simeone played several of his key stars, and Yannick Carrasco powered the attack with two goals.

Per OptaJose, the Belgian is enjoying quite the breakout campaign:

Saul Niguez, Sime Vrsaljko, Angel Correa and Robert Nunez also got their names on the scoresheet.

Sevilla cruised to a 5-1 win over SD Formentera, while Cordoba CF shocked Malaga, winning 2-0.
