Jose Mourinho Receives 1-Game Touchline Ban After Manchester United vs. West Ham
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been given a one-game touchline ban by the Football Association.
News of the sanction for the Portuguese came on Wednesday, via the FA, who also announced a £16,000 fine.
The suspension means Mourinho will not be permitted to take his place in the dugout for the away contests against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
The controversial coach was sent to the stands during the Red Devils' 1-1 draw with West Ham United on November 27. Mourinho kicked a water bottle in anger after Paul Pogba was booked for diving; the 53-year-old was charged with improper conduct on Monday.
"I think there was frustration from Jose after the yellow card for Pogba," said Mourinho's assistant, Rui Faria, of the incident, per Peter Gilbert of Sky Sports. "It should be a foul for us, but the referee understood it in another way."
James Ducker of the Daily Telegraph isn't sure this is an indiscretion that warrants a charge from the FA:
However, Mourinho has been involved in similar incidents this season. The Red Devils boss was sent to the stands during his team's 0-0 draw with Burnley on October 29 after his side were denied a penalty. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager was also banished to the stands for United's 3-1 win over Swansea City.
Mourinho hasn't enjoyed the best beginning to life at Old Trafford. Despite a summer of spending, United have failed to click under his watch and sit in sixth place in the Premier League table; they're 11 points behind league leaders Chelsea after 13 games.
