Tyreek Hill Joins Elite Company with Combination of Touchdowns Sunday

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 28, 2016

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill became the first player to score a rushing, receiving and kick-return touchdown in the same game since Gale Sayers in 1965, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Hill returned a free kick for a touchdown in the second quarter following a safety and scored again in the third quarter on a three-yard rush. He capped off his night with a three-yard touchdown reception from Alex Smith with just 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. His final score sent the game to overtime in an eventual 30-27 win.

The rookie had some issues off the field while at Oklahoma State that resulted in him leaving the program. It also caused him to drop like a rock in the 2016 NFL draft, falling to the Chiefs in the fifth round (165th overall).

Kansas City has had a track record of selecting players with character issues. The team selected Marcus Peters with the 18th pick of the 2015 draft despite him being dismissed from the Washington Huskies football team the season before.

Peters earned Pro Bowl honors and AP Rookie of the Year in his first season and hasn't made waves off the field. The same can be said for Hill early in his professional career.

While Hill's season started off slowly, it was evident in training camp he possessed some special skills. Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub—who's coached Devin Hester—stated he's "the fastest player I've ever had," per Luke Manderfeld of the Kansas City Star.

It didn't translate immediately to success on Sundays, but he's blossomed into a top-tier threat recently with Jeremy Maclin sidelined due to a groin issue. The 22-year-old has caught 23 passes in the last three weeks, and it may be difficult to push him out when Maclin returns.

If nothing else, early signs point to another Kansas City gamble paying dividends.
