Elliott Totals 3rd-Most Rushing Yards in First 10 Games of Career

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 22, 2016

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has rushed for the third-most yardage all time through the first 10 games of a career, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The rookie tailback has amassed 1,102 yards rushing over that span, trailing only Eric Dickerson (1,223) and Adrian Peterson (1,197). Peterson finished his rookie season with 1,341 yards over 14 games, while Dickerson rushed for 1,808 yards, a league-high total in 1983.

Elliott's 25 carries for 97 yards in Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens also pushed him past Tony Dorsett (1,007) for the Cowboys' franchise rookie rushing record, per ESPN. Dorsett was on the sidelines and congratulated the Ohio State product for making the mark.

Former Cowboys back DeMarco Murray is currently the only other rusher to top 1,000 yards so far this season. However, he trails Elliott by 102 yards, and the Tennessee Titans have yet to go through their bye week.

While Elliott's current pace would leave him approximately 45 yards short of Dickerson's rookie rushing record, he can still increase his rate over the final six games to pass the total. The blistering output places Elliott in the MVP conversation, and he likely owns a hefty lead for the Rookie of the Year award.

Elliott and fellow rookie Dak Prescott have led the Cowboys to a league-best 9-1 start through 10 games this season. While the team has a challenging road the rest of the regular season, the duo—along with a strong offensive line and improved defensecould make for a team that competes for years to come.
