Liverpool Transfer News: Steven Gerrard Dual-Role Rumours After MK Dons Offer
Steven Gerrard has been tipped to potentially take on coaching roles at both former club Liverpool and with the England national team after he turned down the chance to become manager of MK Dons.
After recently calling time on his post-Anfield playing career with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, Gerrard, 36, held talks to succeed Karl Robinson as MK Dons boss but is now "out of [the] running," per BBC Sport's Phil Shepka.
According to Sky Sports, Gerrard had been offered the job but ruled himself out on Monday.
David Maddock in the Mirror reported that Liverpool "are ready to hold informal talks about their star player returning" to the club in a coaching role, most likely in the Reds' academy.
Meanwhile, Gerrard could also reportedly be offered a position in the England setup as part of manager Gareth Southgate's coaching team, a job the former Three Lions captain could carry out alongside a role with Liverpool.

Per Maddock, Liverpool and the club's manager, Jurgen Klopp, are likely to wait until after the busy Christmas period to open talks with Gerrard, while Southgate has to be officially appointed in the full-time England role before moves can be made over his backroom staff.
The 46-year-old's appointment by the Football Association as the permanent England manager seems imminent after he took charge of the team in an interim role for their last four matches and was interviewed for the full-time job on Monday, per BBC Sport.
Fellow Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher explained why former team-mate Gerrard opted to turn down the MK Dons job, citing both a desire to take his coaching badges and unwillingness to uproot his family from Merseyside, per Sky Sports MNF:
A return to Liverpool would likely be the ideal scenario for Gerrard as he spent 17 years in the club's senior squad, captained the side to UEFA Champions League glory 2005 and is one of the Anfield outfit's greatest players.
Taking up a position at his boyhood club would put Gerrard back in familiar territory after an 18-month spell in the United States and would also be the first step on the road to potentially taking the top job at Anfield one day.
A position on the England coaching staff would also allow him further necessary experience as he attempts to make the tricky transition from legendary player into successful manager.
