Liverpool Transfer News: Max Meyer Wanted by Jurgen Klopp Amid Tottenham Rumours
Liverpool are reportedly set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their bid to land Schalke 04 midfielder Max Meyer, who is understood to be a priority target for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
That's according to French daily Le10 Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo's Joe Rimmer), which reported Klopp has been a "huge fan" of the player since his days at Borussia Dortmund.
In fact, the report even goes so far as to state the Anfield helmsman is "willing to do anything" to convince Meyer Merseyside is the destination for him after his gleaming progress at the Veltins-Arena.

Liverpool already know they aren't the only Premier League suitors chasing the 21-year-old after Meyer informed German newspaper SportBild (h/t London Evening Standard's Vaishali Bhardwaj) of Spurs' summer interest.
"I know that there was interest and the club was asked, but Schalke immediately put a stop to it. So the matter was settled," Meyer said. "Of course I've dealt with it. I know what I have at Schalke and I like to play for this club. When the time comes, we'll come to a decision. But I feel good about Schalke."
Bhardwaj also included previous quotes from the Bundesliga ace, who asserted that if he was to leave Germany's top flight, he "would like to move to England."
Klopp developed a knack for breeding young and upcoming talents as first-team footballers during his stay at Signal Iduna Park, and it's no wonder he's interested in Meyer, given his standing among Germany's prospects:
Despite his young years, Meyer has already accumulated three caps for Die Mannschaft since making his international debut in 2014, and he scored four goals in six appearances for the Olympic team at Rio 2016.
Earlier in the year, Stefan Bienkowski of German outlet DW Sports asserted Schalke's attacking midfielder is one of the players upon whom Germany will be building their creative line in the years to come:
While Dortmund may not have held a reputation for spending in vast sums during Klopp's stay at the club, making the most of younger, more affordable assets was one factor that helped the manager to great success.
Captain Jordan Henderson has been the Reds' only real staple in midfield this season, with the likes of Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner swapping in as partners. However, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho pointed to the Reds' engine room as a weakness, per BBC Red Wednesday:
Meyer would certainly hand a creative boost to the squad, although one might question where he would play as long as Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Lallana and Wijnaldum are in firing form.
Rimmer's report mentioned Barcelona's interest could complicate any potential deal, but Klopp's must-have mentality could come to play a decisive role in bringing the young German to Anfield next year.
