Revis Reportedly No Longer Wants to Play

Wednesday, Nov. 30

"He's done," a Revis confidant said, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "If he had his way, he'd be done right now. He doesn't want to play anymore. He's made a lot of money."

Latest on Revis' Contract Situation

Tuesday, Nov. 1

According to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, the Jets may release Revis after the season rather than pay him $15 million in 2017 plus a $2 million roster bonus due in March. At this point, Revis may have to accept a pay cut, entertain the option of playing elsewhere or even consider retirement.

Hall of Fame-Worthy Career Winding Down for Revis

The 31-year-old veteran is a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro selection in his 10-year career with the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots.

Revis has 28 career interceptions and has put together a Hall of Fame resume, but that hasn't been evident in 2016.

The former Pitt standout has no interceptions thus far, and he has been burned more often than ever before.

According to Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus, Revis' performance in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns and Terrelle Pryor was the worst of his career:

The entire 2016 season has been a struggle for him, which is in stark contrast to what he has accomplished since being selected No. 14 overall in the 2007 NFL draft by the Jets:

Should Revis decide to continue playing, a move to safety could potentially salvage the latter portion of his career, much like it did for other once-great corners like Rod Woodson, Aeneas Williams and Charles Woodson in their final NFL seasons.

Spending $15 million on a reclamation project is a bit steep for a team that has many other needs on both sides of the ball, however.

Revis could still be a valuable commodity for the Jets in 2017 and beyond if he is capable of switching positions, but the veteran may have no choice other than to swallow his pride and play for far less than initially anticipated.
