ECW: The Forgotten Brand of the WWE

Captain CharismaCorrespondent IOctober 6, 2009

When people think of the top brand of wrestling, they usually focus on the WWE. But that's not who produces top quality matches, quality shows, and in Christian, the best champion of all three brands.

Yes, you guessed it; I'm talking about EC-DUB (ECW).

Cast your mind back to this Sunday, where we witnessed the first and hopefully last WWE Hell in a Cell PPV. I, like most others, love the Hell in a Cell gimmick, but love it WHEN it is the blow-off to a personal and intense feud that has lasted months.

However, this was not the case on Sunday.

CM Punk vs The Undertaker has only been going on since Summerslam, yet the WWE booked themselves into a corner by having this gimmick PPV.

We all know that this feud will continue (CM Punk should still be champion by the way), so why did they have a Hell in a Cell match? Idiotic thinking by the WWE, which seems to be the norm these days.

Now onto the main topic.

The Hell in a Cell PPV contained two matches that had no purpose on the show; those being the Divas Championship Match and the R-Truth vs Drew McIntye match-up. Instead of these two, wouldn't it have been more valuable to have Captain Charisma himself, Christian, defend his ECW Championship against Zack Ryder, William Regal or both?

Aside from the Summerslam fiasco, every match for the ECW Championship has ranged from good to great, especially those with Christian in them. Also, with the formerly known Instant Classic having held the title since Night of Champions, it has become, dare I say, more prestigious than both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships which have been swapped like hot cakes this year.

Having ordered the PPV *winks*, I saw many a Christian shirt in the crowd, therefore, many peeps were present in the crowd. It would have done no harm for the WWE to put an ECW Title match on this PPV, yet they continue to overlook what has been their second best brand (behind SD!) for the past months.

It gets worse; the next PPV, titled WWE Bragging Rights, will include a Raw vs Smackdown main event. Hello?!! It seems to me that the WWE has forgotten that they have a third brand, a brand knows as ECW.

This clearly sends out the message that ECW is inferior to both Smackdown and Raw, and that the ECW Championship is of no worth. Couldn't they have had a Champion vs Champion vs Champion main event instead, which would have showcased why Christian deserves to be considered one of the best in the business?

Couldn't they have had various SD! vs Raw vs ECW matches, with a scorecard on the titan-tron showing which brand had won the most matches?

Instead, we will witness Randy Orton vs John Cena Part 29308909 in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match.

I, for one, am disappointed that this is the case. Hopefully, an ECW Championship match will find its way onto the show and hopefully it will be longer than eight seconds.
