Manchester United Transfer News: Moussa Dembele Reportedly Scouted, Top Rumours
Manchester United reportedly sent a scout to watch Celtic's Moussa Dembele on Wednesday as he came off the bench to score the Bhoys' fourth goal in their 4-0 Scottish Premiership win at Ross County.
According to the Scottish Daily Mail's Mark Wilson, a United representative was in Dingwall to cast an eye over the 20-year-old forward, whose Celtic career has got off to a brilliant start since his summer move from Fulham.
Wednesday's goal was Dembele's seventh in nine appearances so far in the Scottish Premiership campaign, and his brace in Celtic's 3-3 UEFA Champions League draw with Manchester City last month caught the eye of Europe's elite—especially the spectacular second:
Per Sam Morgan in the Sun, United are far from the first major club to scout the Frenchman this season, with Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all having been linked with the young forward.
Real manager Zinedine Zidane recently said Dembele is showing signs that he could be a great player, as he continues to make an impact in Celtic's biggest matches, per David McCarthy in the Daily Record.
It is little surprise, then, that United are keeping an eye on him. In terms of genuine strikers, the Red Devils are currently overreliant on ageing players.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 35, is manager Jose Mourinho's first-choice No. 9, but he is unlikely to play on past next season at best.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Wayne Rooney is some way past his prime, has been regularly dropped to the bench and has even been linked with a departure from Old Trafford, per Calciomercato (via the Mirror's Martin Domin).
In Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, United have two young talents who can operate in the lone-striker role but are arguably most effective on the flanks.
Dembele could be the perfect addition to United's squad as their future No. 9, but given the other clubs interested in him, it will be a tricky signing for the Red Devils to pull off.
Per Ladbrokes, Dembele is also fast becoming a Celtic favourite and is surely enjoying the number of first-team opportunities he is being given by manager Brendan Rodgers, a luxury unlikely to be afforded to him at United, Arsenal, Bayern or Real:
Given that he is contracted to Celtic until 2020, the Glasgow outfit are under no pressure to sell him and would only likely be tempted by a mammoth offer.
