New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comOct 26, 2016

The New York Jets will be looking to string together consecutive wins for the first time this season when they travel to Cleveland to face the winless Browns on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Jets are flying high following a 24-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend, covering as 2.5-point home chalk. But New York has struggled on the road this year, suffering blowout losses in each of its past three games.

Meanwhile, the nightmare continues for the Browns, who fell to 0-7 SU last weekend with a 31-17 defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals. That extends their current straight-up losing streak to 10 games, including three on home turf.

Point spread: The Jets opened as 2.5-point favorites; the total was 43 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Jets can cover the spread

An angry Ryan Fitzpatrick returned to the helm of the Jets offense last weekend following a season-ending injury to quarterback Geno Smith early in his first start of the season.

Fitzpatrick briefly lost the starter's job after leading New York to four straight losses, but the 12-year veteran looks to be back in the saddle after powering the Jets to a comeback victory last week against the Ravens.

The Jets are also unbeaten when running back Matt Forte is a regular target. Forte has twice rushed for 100 yards on 30 touches this season, with New York emerging victorious on both occasions.

Why the Browns can cover the spread

The Browns have given the Dawg Pound little to cheer about this season, but they have excelled at moving the ball on the ground. Rookie quarterback Kevin Hogan tallied 104 rushing yards and ran for one touchdown last week in relief of injured signal-caller Cody Kessler, and he could get the call under center again this weekend.

Isaiah Crowell has also eclipsed 120 rushing yards on two occasions this season. Crowell will need to carry the weight against a Jets defense that surrendered a whopping 171 yards on the ground against the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago.

The Browns defense must stand tall against a Jets offense that has sputtered on the road, averaging just 6.3 points per game in the team's past three outings and scoring more than 20 just once in its past six as road chalk.

Smart pick

The Jets have won three straight against Cleveland and are 3-1 SU and ATS in their past four games when pegged as favorites of three or more points. Cleveland has lost 10 of its last 12 games SU at home, covering as a SU loser just once during that stretch. Look for New York to keep its playoff hopes alive with a SU win, narrowly covering as road chalk.

Betting trends

The Jets are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three games against the Browns.

The Browns are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games after consecutive losses.

The Jets are 0-9 ATS in their last nine games in Week 8.
