In their third game of the season, the New York Rangers played their rivals from New Jersey and without Sean Avery. The Devils started out strong and with 1:10 into the first period Rob Niedermayer scores a goal, putting the Devils up by one.
The Rangers looked flat and we being out hustled for the puck. So coach Tortorella calls a time out and gives his Rangers a tongue lashing. The Rangers came back on the ice and 5:21 later on the power play Del Zotto scores his second goal of the season.
Michael Del Zotto is one very impressive player. He is finding the open space and the rebounds. The young kid is such a scoring threat that any team the Rangers Face will have to plan a defensive strategy to stop him.
The first period was full of penalties. As the Rangers had four and the devils had five and at 10.52 in the first, Travis Zajac scores a pp goal giving the Devs the lead again. But the Rangers answered right back on a power play goal scored by Ales Kotalik off a great pass by non other then Del Zotto, who was pinched deep helping the offense and making it a new game tied at two apiece.
This is why the Rangers are using Kotalik as the forth forward on the power play. He has a rocket of a shot that is extremely accurate. His power play goal was from the blue line, and he blew it right past one of the greatest goalie in the history of the NHL.
The first period was a back and forth battle. The Rangers had problems in the beginning but managed to work their way out of the period with the tie. The power play for the Rangers looked very good as they went 2 – 4.
Michal Rozsival took a bad penalty in the first and in the early second period fans on a perfect pass from Dubinsky which turned into an odd man rush going the other way. This is becoming a habit for Rosy. Bottom line is he is useless. I will say this all season. He will only hurt this team this year and he needs to go. I do not care where he goes, just as long as he is not in the lineup or a part of this team. I will be happy! Do you remember Marik Malik? Cannot control the puck, Can’t pass , can’t shoot, can’t play defense. EQUALS USELESS! Get rid of him already.
The second period resulted in a lot of scoring chances and even more penalties. The Rangers picked up the tempo and 17.50 into the second period Matt Gilroy slaps one past Brodeur, scoring his first goal of his NHL career and giving the Rangers a 3-2 lead going into the third.
Gilroy is another rookie defenseman that has the potential to have a great year. The first two periods he moved the puck very well, and his defensive play was very good . To think, the Rangers have 4 more defensemen that have the potential to become superstars in Hartford. What has been an issue for the Rangers since the trade of the great Brian Leech, has now took a turn for the better as the Rangers are stacked with defensemen.
Early in the third period the Rangers fended off a 5 on 3. With all the penalties the Rangers had their pk looked very good and they even had some shorthanded chances.
The forth line for the Rangers looked impressive. Some hard hits and plenty of shots on goal, as well as forced some penalties. I liked the fact that coach tortorella started using his forth line against the devils first line. They are big and can definitely where down any teams best line.
The Rangers took control of the game for the first 15 minutes of the third period. But the devils responded with 5 minutes left , picking up the pace and having control in the Rangers zone for the remainder of the game. As the Rangers fought them off to take the win 3-2!
Other then the first few minutes , the Rangers played a very good game. The Rangers are heading to Washington to face Alex Ovechkin and the Caps. This is going to be another hard game for the blue shirts on the road. I hope Tortorella uses Brashear , Voros and Boyle to shut down Ovie. It’s going to be a good match up.
It maybe early in the season, but the Rangers are scoring goals and looking good. Not a bad start at all. i still wish we had that one big d-man to clear the front of the net or to be that enforcer when in their own zone.
They have two defensemen that they can replace right now that are doing nothing. Rosy and redden, and since they are doing nothing and will coninue to do nothing, the Rangers might as well play the big guy, Alexei Seminov. At 6'6 235lbs, he has a shot that was recorded at 105 mph. he is big, can check and can play defense. Get rid of Rosy and get Seminov in there. that would be a very good move!
