Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Memphis Depay, Jordan Pickford Rumours

Tom SunderlandOct 16, 2016

Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay is reportedly set to join AC Milan during the January transfer window as the Italians prepare to offer the winger a route out of Old Trafford. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are said to be circling Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Depay has continued as a fringe figure at the Theatre of Dreams under new manager Jose Mourinho, but Neil Fissler of the Daily Express reported that won't prevent Milan from investing in his talents this winter.

The 22-year-old has played just 12 minutes in the Premier League this term and has managed only one start across all competitions, leading some to believe his days with United could be numbered already.

The Telegraph's James Ducker recently praised Depay for the work he's put into making sure there's a chance of reviving his faltering United career, but there's a sense it may be a case of too little, too late:

The former PSV Eindhoven star moved to Old Trafford from the Eredivisie outfit last year for a fee of £25 million, but he now sits behind Juan Mata, captain Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and others in the winger pecking order.

That being said, Depay did start for the Netherlands in last Monday's 1-0 defeat to France in 2018 World Cup qualifying, and Sky Sports' Peter Hall saw the performance as a potential turn in his tenure:

Depay's Manchester United contract runs until the summer of 2019 with the option of a further year, and while it seems unlikely the club will opt to extend his stay, it means the forward has time to change his fate.

Former Premier League defender Danny Gabbidon doesn't feel the Dutch whiz is up to the task, however, calling for more production on the pitch if he's to salvage a future with the Red Devils:

Elsewhere, the Sun (h/t Daily Star's Joel Watson) reported United are eyeing Sunderland stopper Pickford following his impressive start to the 2016-17 campaign as the Black Cats' new starting goalkeeper.

Former No. 1 Costel Pantilimon moved to Watford back in January, and as WhoScored.com recently highlighted, Pickford has been a very active figure for the Premier League's bottom side in between the sticks:

Everton are understood to be "leading the race" to land the 22-year-old, however, after he earned a call-up to England caretaker manager Gareth Southgate's most recent squad.

United are content with the talents of David De Gea as shot-stopper for the time being, but recruiting one of England's up-and-coming goalkeeping forces could provide the club with a promising alternative.
