WWE Hell in a Cell 2016: Feuds Guaranteed to Increase Excitement for Event

Tom ClarkOct 16, 2016

Satan's Structure is coming back to WWE.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 will overtake the red brand on Oct. 30, and fans are hoping for an entertaining event. WWE has booked some impressive matches thus far, and with any luck, that trend will continue over the next couple of weeks.

The road to history is being laid along the way.

For the first time, two women will step inside Hell in a Cell when Sasha Banks defends her Raw Women's Championship against Charlotte. It's a match that many felt would never happen, but the two Superstars are trailblazers in the division.

Hell in a Cell is the next step of evolution for them.

Kevin Owens' evolution will continue as well when he defends his WWE Universal Championship against Seth Rollins in the cell. This is another opportunity for KO to give the belt more credibility with a successful title defense, as WWE will continue to promote Raw's new top championship.

But even evolution cannot prevent the problems that arise from the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view itself.

The biggest issue here is WWE's no-blood policy. The barbaric nature of the cell match should dictate that some color come into play, but that does not happen. When a guy gets his head rammed into the steel structure, only to sell the bump and then recover within seconds, fans become detached from the moment.

The cell is nothing more than a gimmick that is used to hype matches. It serves no other purpose in this PG era.

Of course, that will not stop fans from watching on Oct. 30. But it's up to WWE and the Superstars to generate excitement for the event. Once that begins happening, Hell in a Cell will gain more momentum and become a must-see night of pro wrestling.

T.J. Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick (WWE Cruiserweight Championship)

1 of 4

Two of the Superstars on the card will bring everything they have—no cell needed.

T.J. Perkins is establishing himself as a real player in WWE. He's young, athletic and perhaps more modern than any Superstar on the roster. He is good, but he's likely not even shown all he can do yet. As time goes on, he will continue to impress and improve.

He fits into the WWE system, and he's doing better than many perhaps could have expected. He brings energy that's unmatched by anyone in the cruiserweight division, and he'll face another test when he defends his belt against his mentor.

This is Brian Kendrick's comeback story, and it's playing out perfectly.

Kendrick has a chance to once again prove he still has what it takes to impress as he re-establishes himself as a star in WWE. He has another shot at the belt that eluded him during the Cruiserweight Classic, and he will likely make the best of it.

Next to Banks vs. Charlotte, this match has more story behind it than any other on the card. That's what makes it important, and it's also why fans are becoming invested in it. This one could well steal the show on Oct. 30.

The New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus (WWE Raw Tag Team Championships)

2 of 4

Is it a new day for Raw's tag team division?

Sheamus and Cesaro are WWE's unlikeliest duo. They have nothing in common and no reason to work together at all. But general manager Mick Foley put the two men together, and they're forced to try to make it work.

The reality is that WWE loves this concept, and the desire to see it happen has led to this match.

But does the company love it so much that a title change will occur at Hell in a Cell? The New Day has the second-longest title reign in company history, but it could be that the time has come to move on. This doesn't necessarily guarantee The New Day is finished, but Cesaro and Sheamus do make an intriguing tandem.

Maybe they will get the nod on Oct. 30.

The fact is that all five men are solid entertainers. The longer they work together, the more chemistry they should develop, and that means this match will be a fun one for fans. There's not much story here, but considering how heavy the other matches are, the lighthearted tone may be just what the night needs.

The titles are just an added bonus—it's the entertainment factor that will provide the excitement here.

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins (WWE Universal Championship)

3 of 4

How valuable is the WWE Universal Championship?

Fans are still trying to answer that question, and the company will have to address it at Hell in a Cell when Kevin Owens defends against Seth Rollins. The company could not have chosen two better Superstars to carry the main event, and they will prove it on Oct. 30.

The title is the second-most important one in WWE and deserves a match of this magnitude.

Rollins is over more than he ever has been. Fans have been waiting for the opportunity to cheer him as a babyface, and now they have it. He is in his element as the fallen Superstar who is seeking vengeance, and no one plays the part better than he does.

He's perhaps only matched by the champ.

KO is on his game; he's never looked better and is doing a great job as the universal champion. He's never been more entertaining, and that is especially true when he's paired with BFF Chris Jericho. Y2J is a wild card here because, if he finds his way into this match, the excitement level will increase twofold.

Owens and Rollins will deliver, and their showdown at Hell in a Cell could be one of the best that fans have seen this year.

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte (WWE Raw Women's Championship)

4 of 4

This is the one that fans are waiting for.

Sasha Banks is the Raw women's champion, and Charlotte wants the title back. That is the story of this match, and under any other set of circumstances, it would be enough. But a lot of drama is happening here, and there is no bigger stage for it than Hell in a Cell.

This is about two Superstars who are vying to be the best in their division. Personal animosity and highly competitive matches have fueled this rivalry, and now they will step inside Hell in a Cell to settle their differences.

But will it be over when this match ends?

The fact is that Banks and Charlotte will likely always be at war. This bout is another opportunity for them to prove they deserve the big stage and perhaps even the main event spotlight. This match should go on last, as the two need a way to wrap up their feud for now.

Like Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat, Charlotte and Banks have amazing chemistry and a feud that is redefining their careers. They bring excitement every time they step into the ring together, and that will be the case when they make WWE history on Oct. 30.

They will be ready to deliver like they never have before at Hell in a Cell.
