Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Riyad Mahrez and Michael Keane

Leicester City talisman Riyad Mahrez has insisted he has no regrets after speculation of a move to Arsenal over the summer came to nothing. Meanwhile, the Gunners' chances of landing Burnley's Michael Keane have reportedly improved.

Mahrez was the subject of a summer's worth of transfer gossip, but links with a move to the Emirates Stadium amounted to nought as he signed a four-year contract extension, and he holds no regrets, per ESPN FC's Ian Holyman:

I was in a difficult situation.

Of course I was going to cost a lot, Leicester wanted to keep me, there was the Champions League.

There was contact with Arsenal, contact with other teams. At the moment of the offer, they didn't want to enter into a conflict with Leicester. Personally, staying was a very good thing for me, too. I know the coach has confidence in me, and it's up to me to prove myself for a second year. After that, we'll see.

"

The Algeria international's price shot through the roof after he played a leading hand in the Foxes' historic Premier League title win, clinching he Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award.

There might have been some doubts as to whether Mahrez was capable of making that step up to the next level of world football, but the Guardian's Barney Ronay believes the winger has eased those fears already:

Admittedly, Mahrez is having a more dull 2016-17 season so far than his last campaign in Leicester colours, with his side currently sat in 12th while Arsenal are just two points off table leaders Manchester City.

When asked if a move to rumoured suitors Paris Saint-Germain could be on the cards, Mahrez refused to rule anything out: "It doesn't really interest me, but you never know in life."

Elsewhere, the Gunners have received good news in their pursuit of Burnley star Keane after it emerged his recent call-up to the senior England squad has made the defender reconsider his stay at Turf Moor.

Bleacher Report's Dean Jones said Chelsea have the edge in the race as things stand, but Arsenal can take positives from their target's recent change in mood:

The Daily Star's Alex Harris added the Gunners are one of the Premier League outfits interested in Keane, who was called into Gareth Southgate's squad to replace the injured Glen Johnson last week.

The 23-year-old left Manchester United last year for just £2.5 million, but Keane's call-up to the Three Lions' senior squad was little surprise to former Red Devil Rio Ferdinand:

Keane has made swift progress under the tutelage of Clarets boss Sean Dyche, who has offered the former United starlet the first-team chances he so sorely desired and is now reaping the benefits.

Arsenal recruited Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding to replenish their centre-back ranks over the summer, but Keane could provide another young, promising, homegrown presence in the spine of Arsene Wenger's defence.
