WWE No Mercy 2016 Matches: Full Card Breakdown, Bold Predictions and More
WWE No Mercy has a solid card that could produce several great matches, but like every pay-per-view, it all depends on how WWE books the finish to each contest.
This is the second pay-per-view for the blue brand, and its last before it joins back up with the Raw roster for Survivor Series on November 19.
Unlike Backlash, we are heading into this event with almost every feud being fleshed out, which makes the WWE Universe anticipate the show more.
Some of the matches are easy to predict, but there are a few where WWE has set it up so we have no idea who will walk away with the win.
Let's take a look at each of the eight matches on the card and try to predict who will leave with victories in the record books.
Baron Corbin vs. Jack Swagger
1 of 8This is one of the few times where a pre-show match can have a real impact on the current push of both Superstars involved.
Baron Corbin is looking to continue his winning ways, while Swagger is trying to get himself back into the spotlight by beating an up-and-coming Superstar.
Swagger has been in a slump for a long time. His team with Cesaro was popular, but he hasn't had a decent singles run since the company first paired him with Zeb Colter.
The move to SmackDown was supposed to help him get back on track, but if he loses to Corbin, he will be right back where he started.
While Swagger would gain more from a victory, Cobrin is the one who is most likely to have his hand raised at the end of the match. WWE is heavily invested in pushing newer talents these days, and Corbin is someone management clearly sees as a future top heel.
If this feud is going to last a few months, Swagger could score an upset, but the smart bet is to put your money on Corbin.
Prediction: Baron Corbin wins
Carmella vs. Nikki Bella
2 of 8Like Corbin vs. Swagger, this bout has two competitors who could greatly benefit from a win at this point in their respective careers.
Carmella is the new kid on the block looking to prove herself, but Nikki Bella is trying to re-establish herself as the top woman in the company after being gone with a neck injury for several months.
The fans didn't take to Carmella when WWE first promoted her from NXT the way many had hoped, but ever since she turned heel, she has been getting heat from the crowd.
The most surprising part of this feud is how over Bella has been with the fans. She was one of the most hated members of the roster before her injury, so it was shocking to hear her get such a loud pop when she made her return at SummerSlam.
This is one of the hardest outcomes to predict because both women are in need of the win just as much as the other.
Not to sound repetitive, but if WWE wants to build its new generation, it needs to give the newer Superstars wins in most situations. Since Carmella is a heel, it would make sense for WWE to have her use nefarious methods to get the win.
Prediction: Carmella wins by cheating
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
3 of 8Thanks to some great acting by both Superstars, the feud between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton has been much better than expected.
Having the two compete in a war of mind games has been a lot of fun to watch, and it appears that this feud has breathed new life into Orton's character.
When it comes down to wins and losses, Wyatt needs to come away with the victory a lot more than Orton does, even if he gets it by using dirty tactics.
Wyatt has been one of the company's most intriguing characters since the day he debuted, but whenever he gets on a roll, WWE books him to lose a big match, effectively killing all his momentum.
Getting a win over The Viper would give The Eater of Worlds a boost as he tries to rebuild himself into one of WWE's most feared heels, which is why he is the safer bet on Sunday.
With Luke Harper back on the road, it's possible we will see him return to his master to help him secure the win.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt wins
Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss
4 of 8The Women's Championship match is one of the easiest contests to predict on the entire card.
Alexa Bliss has done a great job establishing herself as a spoiled brat who thinks she is better than everyone else, but it's not her time to be the champion.
Becky Lynch is being booked as SmackDown's biggest star, and having her lose the title approximately one month after winning it would do nothing to help anyone.
Lynch is a favorite among the WWE Universe for many reasons, and management needs to build her as a credible champion to capitalize on her popularity.
Bliss will put up a good fight, but at the end of the night, The Lass Kicker is going to make her tap out.
Prediction: Becky Lynch retains
The Usos vs. Heath Slater and Rhyno
5 of 8Heath Slater gained a lot of popularity during his rise from undrafted Superstar to tag team champion, but his momentum has died down in recent weeks.
Ever since he and Rhyno won the new SmackDown tag titles, his push has slowed to a crawl. Perhaps it's because he was more fun to watch when he was chasing a dream, not living one.
On the other hand, The Usos have found new life as heels. Their change in attitude and wrestling style has made them into a whole new team, and it feels like they are being pushed back to the top of the division.
The best option for everyone might be to have The Usos win the titles so Slater and Rhyno can go back to being the scrappy underdogs everyone wants to see win.
Prediction: The Usos win the Tag Team Championships
The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler
6 of 8The Miz and Dolph Ziggler have feuded many times over the years, but their most recent storyline has become one of the most entertaining things on WWE television.
The passion and fire both men have shown in their promos has led to some of the best work either of them has produced in their careers, and it has helped make the Intercontinental Championship look more important in the process.
The Miz has been one of WWE's best heels for years, but only recently has management loosed the reins and let him speak from the heart.
With Ziggler putting his career on the line in this match, many would expect him to win the title, but it might not be that simple.
Ric Flair recently speculated on his podcast, The Ric Flair Show (h/t William Windsor of Wrestling Inc), that Ziggler may be transitioning into a backstage role with the company, and if that is the case, losing to The Miz may be WWE's way of writing him off television.
It would be a huge loss to lose Ziggler when he is just starting to gain some real momentum, so this prediction will be based on hope more than logic.
Prediction: Dolph Ziggler win the IC title
Curt Hawkins vs. TBD
7 of 8After weeks of videos featuring Chuck Norris facts—I mean, Curt Hawkins facts—the former tag team champions will finally make his return to the ring at No Mercy.
We don't know who he will be facing, but since his return is happening at a pay-per-view, it probably won't be against some random jobber.
He will most likely defeat whoever he ends up facing, but if WWE plans on making him a glorified jobber like it did with Jinder Mahal when he returned, we might see someone come out and squash the returning Superstar to give the crowd a good laugh.
Hawkins didn't have a lot of success during his previous run, so it's hard to imagine WWE bringing him back to make him a world champion. However, he could still have a good career as a midcard talent, and a win at a PPV would get him off to a great start.
Prediction: Curt Hawkins wins
Aj Styles vs. John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose
8 of 8The main event will feature three different types of Superstars going at it for the greatest prize in WWE when AJ Styles defends the WWE World Championship against John Cena and Dean Ambrose.
Cena represents the classic babyface, Styles is the heel with a chip on his shoulder and Ambrose is the unpredictable hothead.
When compared to the Attitude Era, this is like The Rock vs. Chris Jericho vs. Steve Austin. Each represents a different kind of wrestler, but they all work well together.
Cena is chasing his dream of tying Flair's record of 16 world titles, while Ambrose is trying to regain what he feels was stolen from him.
Styles is someone many thought would never end up in WWE, let alone be champion, so he has already beaten the odds on several fronts.
Ambrose is better when he is chasing something, so it doesn't feel like the right time to have him take back the belt. As far as Cena goes, his big win should be saved for a special occasion like WrestleMania. This is why Styles will walks out of No Mercy with his reign intact.
Prediction: AJ Styles retains
