Yaya Toure's Agent Comments on Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Contract

Rory MarsdenOct 7, 2016

Yaya Toure's agent, Dimitri Seluk, has said there is "no problem" with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola despite the recent war of words between the pair.

Seluk's client has not played for City in the Premier League all season and Toure's Sky Blues career looked to have reached its end last month when Guardiola said he would not play the Ivorian until his agent apologised for previous disparaging comments, per Bleacher Report UK:

However, in a potential attempt to make peace without issuing the requested apology, Seluk has now insisted there is no issue with the Spanish manager and said Toure, 33, will remain at City until his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, per Tuttomercatoweb (via Ian Holyman of ESPN.co.uk):

"There's no problem with Pep. Yaya will stay at City in January. He has a contract until the end of the season, and we'll see after that what the best option for his career will be."

Toure's City career looked doomed as soon as it was revealed early in 2016 that Guardiola would succeed Manuel Pellegrini as Sky Blues manager.

Per Jamie Jackson in the Guardian, Guardiola shifted Toure on from Barcelona to City in 2010, and with the midfielder having dropped off in form last season, it never seemed likely he would be able to force himself into the Spaniard's side.

So it has proved this season, as the man who was so integral to City's Premier League title triumphs in 2012 and 2014 has made just one appearance in 2016-17—August's UEFA Champions League qualification play-off second leg against Steaua Bucharest.

Toure still boasts enough skill to potentially be valuable to Guardiola and City at some point during the season when injuries and fatigue set in.

His output has been on the decline of late but, assuming his relationship with the manager is not completely wrecked, Toure could still have a role to play as City fight for silverware on numerous fronts.

It is unlikely he will stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond next summer once his current contract has expired. But with Seluk seemingly looking to patch things up with Guardiola, Toure could yet have a final flourish in City colours.
