Trent Cole Responds to Reggie Wayne's Comments on Colts Front Office
Reggie Wayne hasn't suited up for the Indianapolis Colts since Jan. 2015, but the second-leading receiver in franchise history has kept tabs on his former team from afar since he announced his retirement from the NFL 10 months ago.
During a recent appearance on NFL Network, Wayne criticized the team's roster composition while defending quarterback Andrew Luck.
"A lot of people are wanting to criticize Andrew Luck instead of really in my opinion going after what the big problem is," Wayne said, per ProFootballTalk.com's Michael David Smith. "I think that big problem is a lot of the front-office decisions."
However, defensive end Trent Cole—who was recently placed on injured reserve with a back injury—didn't appreciate Wayne's words and made that much clear with a post on Facebook:
To Wayne's point, the Colts have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball throughout the start of the 2016 season.
Not only does the Colts defense rank 24th in average yards allowed (382.8 yards per game), but their offense sits at just No. 17 overall with 349.3 yards per game.
The Colts' patchwork offensive line has also allowed a league-worst 15 sacks of Luck as he's been subject to punishment repeatedly a year after he was limited to seven appearances after suffering fractured ribs and a lacerated kidney.
Conversely, the Colts have notched just seven sacks as their defensive line has failed to apply ample pressure and alleviate the burden on a secondary that's allowed a 24th-ranked 277 passing yards per game.
As Wayne intimated, some of the blame for the Colts' lack of roster balance falls on general manager Ryan Grigson, whom the organization signed to a contract extension through 2019 in January.
And while his moves have been questionable at times, Grigson is in a position to make executive personnel decisions for the foreseeable future.
