Tottenham vs. Manchester City: Pep Guardiola's Key Pre-Match Presser Comments

Rory MarsdenSep 30, 2016

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola labelled Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as one of the best managers in the world ahead of the Sky Blues' visit to White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Spaniard also confirmed that he has yet to receive a requested apology from Yaya Toure and insisted his side must improve following their 3-3 midweek draw with Celtic in the UEFA Champions League.

City have a perfect record in the Premier League under Guardiola having won six from six in 2016-17, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was quick to praise Spurs and their manager ahead of their meeting, per the Manchester club's Twitter feed:

The Sky Blues' perfect winning record in all competitions this season came to an end on Wednesday as they drew 3-3 with Celtic.

Guardiola admitted the Scottish giants had exposed some weaknesses in his side and insisted improvements needed to be made for the Spurs game, per City:

The 45-year-old also revealed he has received no apology from midfielder Toure—despite threatening not to play him until he gets one—but said the Ivorian is still training well, per the Times' Paul Hirst:

Per BBC Sport's Jermaine Jenas, in Pochettino's Tottenham side, Guardiola faces his toughest test yet in charge of the Sky Blues.

City will have to put in a stellar performance in north London to avoid dropping their first league points of the term, and they will again be without the injured Kevin De BruyneVincent Kompany and Fabian Delph, per the club website.

Guardiola said he needs the trio back and hailed the upcoming international break as a good opportunity for them to continue their respective recoveries, per ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery:

With City top of the Premier League table and Spurs four points behind in second having also not yet lost a match, Sunday's clash in north London is undoubtedly the highlight game of the weekend.

After passing every challenge so far in the English top flight, Guardiola faces his most difficult one yet on Sunday.

And, though still very early in the season, if City come away with all three points, there may be no stopping them on their march to the title.
