Panthers Lose Streak of 100-Yard Team Rushing Performances

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 5, 2016

The Carolina Panthers accumulated only 49 rushing yards in Sunday's 48-33 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, ending a streak of 30 consecutive regular-season games with at least 100 rushing yards as a team, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The aforementioned streak was tied for the third-longest of its kind in league history, matching a 30-game run put together by the Cleveland Browns between 1957 and 1960.

The longest active streak of its kind now belong to the Dallas Cowboys, who notched a seventh consecutive game with 100 or more team rushing yards in Sunday's 27-17 road win over the San Francisco 49ers, per ESPN Stats & Info.

It took a perfect storm of circumstances to end Carolina's streak, starting with the absence of starting running back Jonathan Stewart, who missed a second consecutive game due to a hamstring injury.

The Panthers then fell behind 14-0 by the end of the first quarter, and with the team never holding a lead at any point, the passing attack obviously took priority over the running game.

For the icing on the cake, fleet-footed quarterback Cam Newton was forced from the game to be evaluated for a concussion, which left statuesque Derek Anderson as the team's signal-caller for most of the fourth quarter.
