Barcelona Transfer News: Paulo Dybala Rumours, Marc-Andre ter Stegen Latest

Matt JonesSep 28, 2016

Barcelona are reportedly poised to go all out to secure the signing of Juventus’ Paulo Dybala next summer.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Calciomercato.com), where it’s suggested the former Palermo man is admired by those at the Camp Nou. It’s added in the initial report that even after strengthening their squad with six acquisitions in the summer, the Blaugrana are still keeping a close eye on the Argentina international.

Dybala has made major improvements over the last couple of campaigns, excelling at the point of the Juve attack last term. Here’s a look back at what was a remarkable 2015-16 for the player:

This year's campaign, by comparison, has got off to something of a slow start, with the 22-year-old only scoring his first goal of the season on Tuesday against Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League. It was quite the strike, though, as Dybala thrashed in a 30-yard effort.

Even though he’s stuttered out of the blocks in 2016-17, there’s no doubting the remarkable talent the striker possesses. On the ball, he’s so cute and crafty in his work, able to thread passes, take on defenders and beat goalkeepers with so much variation.

This term, we’ve not seen enough of those skills. As noted by Bleacher Report’s Adam Digby, Dybala has been tasked with fulfilling a different role by manager Massimiliano Allegri:

It’s no surprise Barcelona are interested in the player, with Lionel Messi hailing the potential of Dybala last year.

"Paulo is a great player and he has a bright future ahead of him," Messi said of his compatriot in October 2015, per Tuttosport (h/t ESPN FC). "I have no doubt about it that people will talk about him a lot over the next few years."

Given his technical flair and swaggering style, Dybala would fit in well at the Camp Nou. Even so, according to Calciomercato, Juve are desperate to keep the man known as "La Joya"; it means the Blaugrana will have to part with mega money if they’re to prise the forward out of Turin.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen Discusses Future

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has revealed he no longer holds doubts about his long-term future at the club.

The German has become the first choice at the Camp Nou following the sale of Claudio Bravo to Manchester City during the summer. It’s a sale that seems to have eased the concerns of Ter Stegen after talk over a possible exit.

"[Leaving the club is] not something I’m not [sic] worried about now," said the 24-year-old, per Sport. "All players in the team want to play and give 100 per cent on the pitch. The situation was difficult for us both and [Bravo's] found a solution which is better. I’m here with Barca and I’m not thinking about other teams. There’s nothing more."

With Ter Stegen as the younger man, many tied to the Catalan club envisaged him eventually taking over from Bravo, although doubts were beginning to mount with the Chile international doing such a fine job between the sticks.

So far, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man has excelled. As noted by Bleacher Report’s Rik Sharma, Ter Stegen offers an assurance at the base of the side:

In addition to his dynamism, ability to spot danger and expert distribution, Ter Stegen has excelled in the fundamental aspects of goalkeeping. He’s made some remarkable saves already this term and is making steady progression in decision-making and the command of the penalty area.

Such was the standard set by Bravo, it wouldn’t have been a great surprise to see Barca keep him at the club for another season at least. However, a bold decision was made, and Ter Stegen’s recent efforts seem to suggest it was the correct one.
