Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Aleix Vidal and Andres Iniesta Rumours

Tom SunderlandSep 22, 2016

Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal has reportedly seen his chances of a January transfer rise after posting a cryptic message on social media, possibly aimed at the club. Also, Andres Iniesta has dashed any chances of a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Catalan newspaperĀ Sport reported on Vidal's Instagram outburst after being left out of manager Luis Enrique's squad for Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid.

Spanish dailyĀ AS provided a look at the post in question:

According toĀ Sport, Vidal is "open to leaving the club in January," acknowledging his post of the "shut up face" paired with the middle finger could be targeted at Enrique, or the media for their hand in covering his situation.

Wednesday's omission was Vidal's third successive game being left out of Enrique's squad, and Kieran Canning of Agence France-Presse recently touched upon Enrique's presumed rating of the player:

Having yet to play a significant role under his current manager before this season, Vidal's position at the Camp Nou appears to have fallen even further down the pecking order.

If his online presence is anything to go by, speculation of the defender's own inclination toward a move could well be leaning toward the club's exit this January.

Meanwhile, Barca can take delight in Iniesta's recent statement of loyalty to the Blaugrana's cause after he confessed he would never take up the chance to move to the Premier League.

When asked if he would link back up with former Barca boss Guardiola at Manchester City, the veteran told Spanish radio stationĀ COPE (h/t Sky Sports' James Dale):

"

Guardiola knows what I think, what I want, and my desire is ending my career here, like I've said many times.

I'm very clear about what I say and what I think, everybody knows it.

I would love to end my career at Barcelona.Ā I have a contract until 2018. We will have to ask the directorsĀ whether they want to extend my contract.Ā

But I can only repeat that I want to retire at Barcelona.

"

Iniesta is now in his 15th season as a senior member of the playing staff at Barcelona, but with less than two years left on his contract, questions are being asked of his future at the club.

OptaJose attested to the longstanding impact Barcelona's oldest playing asset has had among Spain's elite since the dawn of his professional career:

City may be one of the few clubs that could actually afford to put up with a pursuit of one of Barca's most cherished assets, but it seems even they won't be able to get their hands on Iniesta.

The midfielderĀ remains in the dark as to where his future lies at the Camp Nou approaching his contract's end, but until that question goes answered, City may maintain their interest in the Spanish superstar.
