Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Sergio Ramos and Thibaut Courtois

Rob BlanchetteSep 20, 2016

Manchester United will once again move for Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and are preparing a “huge offer” for the Spain international.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t Jack Otway of the Express), former Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho is willing to part with £42 million to capture his former defender. United chased the star player 12 months ago, but Ramos opted to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The transfer would see Ramos become the third-most expensive defender of all time behind David Luiz of Chelsea and Manchester City starlet John Stones, according to Otway.

Despite the fresh rumours, Ramos and Mourinho have previously "clashed" when the coach was in charge in the Spanish capital. The 30-year-old defender was disappointed at the Portuguese's treatment of legendary goalkeeper Iker  Casillas—an issue that contributed to the self-proclaimed Special One's departure from Real in 2013, per Otway.

Ramos won his second UEFA Champions League trophy last season as Los Blancos collected their 11th European Cup.

In other news, Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois has revealed that Real sent him a fax wishing him a speedy recovery when he was out injured last term.

In an interview with Spanish daily Marca, (h/t Ed Malyon of the Mirror), the Blues player admitted he would consider a return to Spain and spoke about Real's interest in his health as he recuperated: "When I injured my knee they [Real Madrid] sent me a fax wishing me a prompt recovery."

The keeper was a smash hit for Atletico Madrid during a lengthy loan spell at the Calderon Stadium and has admitted that he is leaning towards a switch back to Spanish football.

Courtois started 23 games in the Premier League last season, according to WhoScored.com, as Chelsea surrendered their English title to Leicester City.

Here is a video of Courtois in LaLiga action:

John Brewin of ESPN said Chelsea made an error selling Petr Cech, with the Belgium international struggling for top form:

Courtois remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and his recent form at Chelsea is not an indicator of his overall talent.

The Belgian was at home in Spanish football and totally comfortable with the nature of the game in LaLiga, especially when compared to the direct style of the Premier League.

The goalkeeper would be a phenomenal capture for Zinedine Zidane and could hold the No. 1 spot for many years with Los Blancos.

Keylor Navas is nearly the wrong side of 30, and Courtois could provide Madrid with a world-class heir to the Costa Rican's position.
