Tennessee Titans vs. Detroit Lions Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick
The Detroit Lions will be gunning for a fifth consecutive straight-up win Sunday when they kick off their home schedule in Week 2 with a matchup against the Tennessee Titans at Ford Field.
The Lions continued their high-scoring ways with a 39-35 Week 1 victory in Indianapolis, covering as 2.5-point underdogs to improve their recent against the spread record to 6-2. The Titans travel to Motown searching for answers following a 25-16 home loss to Minnesota last week, extending their current SU losing streak to five games.
Point spread: The Lions opened as 5.5-point favorites; the total was 47 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Titans can cover the spread
Titans management kept busy in the offseason, adding key upgrades including rusher DeMarco Murray and center Ben Jones, along with youngsters Tajae Sharp and Derrick Henry. But patience is a virtue for Titans fans, who saw the Vikings return a pair of turnovers for touchdowns in last week's loss, leaving them winless ATS in nine straight, surrendering 24 or more points on eight occasions.
The Titans' run-first offense gives young quarterback Marcus Mariota a chance to develop. However, much depends on how Mariota responds following last week's collapse against Minnesota, and whether the team's new veteran core can step up.
Why the Lions can cover the spread
The Lions demonstrated poise by bouncing back to win in Indianapolis after blowing an early 21-3 lead. Detroit's offense cracked 30 points in each of their preseason outings, and has now scored 32 or more in three of their past four regular-season contests.
Detroit has had little historical success against the Titans, losing four straight and going 1-3 ATS, while surrendering 91 total points over their past two meetings.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford didn't appear to miss Calvin Johnson in last week's win, hitting nine different targets for 340 yards and three touchdowns. But, after surrendering 450 total yards last week, the Lions defense must be better against a Titans offense that is due for a breakout.
Smart pick
The Lions have been among the best teams in the NFL since ending last year's 1-7 SU season-opening run, averaging 27.5 points per game while going 7-2 SU and ATS. Detroit has also been a reliable bet when pegged as a home favorite of six or more points, going 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their past five.
The Titans appear to have the makings of a promising future, and a pass defense that ranked seventh last season. Tennessee is in desperate need of a few breaks to end their current losing streak, before this youthful squad can fulfill its potential. Look for Detroit to win and cover against the struggling Titans.

The Titans are 4-0 SU in their last four games against the Lions.
