Hue Jackson Says He Will Win Super Bowl During Cleveland Browns Tenure

Mike ChiariSep 15, 2016

Week 1's 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles felt like more of the same for the Cleveland Browns, but Browns head coach Hue Jackson is confident Cleveland fans will grow to love him.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Jackson thinks he is the right man to turn around the franchise's misfortune:

"

The fans might not like me for a while, but they're going to love me here pretty soon. That's OK. Eventually they will love me, I promise you that. Because I do plan on winning here and I do get it. I know with every loss there's another dagger that drags you down another few feet deeper.

That's OK, I've been there before. I'm a fighter. We're going to get back up and we're going to keep swinging. We're going to be fine.

Jackson also expressed his belief that he will eventually lead the Browns to a Super Bowl title:

"

That's what it's all about. It's not about anything else. That's what I came here for. I didn't come here to be average and just win a few games and go about my business. I came here to help this organization win a championship.

How fast that's going to happen I don't know. I don't know if there's going to be a ton of struggle before there's a ton of great times, but I don't worry about people not being happy right now.

I'm going to do the best job I can with our staff and these players and we're going to keep working at it. My point is eventually they will love me because we're going to win. We're going to win a championship here for the Cleveland Browns.

"

The team has one of the NFL's longest playoff droughts, as they haven't qualified for the postseason since 2002.

They've won five games or fewer in seven of the past eight seasons, and they continue to cycle through quarterbacks at a torrid pace.

That issue has already reared its ugly head once again in 2016. Robert Griffin III was placed on injured reserve after hurting his shoulder in Week 1, which means Josh McCown is slated to start Week 2.

The Browns' AFC North rivals—the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens—all won their games in Week 1, so Cleveland is already behind the eight ball.

Cleveland has had eight different head coaches since it last made the playoffs, and while Jackson thinks he will buck the trend, early returns show little signs of progress for the struggling organization.
